I know I am late, but I have been working on this post for several days.
I remember as a child in School learning about our US Presidents and being in awe at the very thought of what awesome men they must have been in order to accomplish all the wonderful things they did. To declare independence from the Mother Country. Have you read the Declaration of Independence lately? To compose a Democratic Constitution and bill of rights.

I remember all those cheesy songs and the skits with the cotton ball wigs and black construction paper stove pipe hats and beards. We were learning and growing in our patriotism.
Because of my strong Christian beliefs I was always aware that they did not do these wonderful things alone, They were instruments in the hands of God to protect and promote this promised land to a greater purpose.
I don't just love living in Utah, I am very proud that the Lord felt that I should be given the opportunity to be born here on the American Continent as a US Citizen with all the rights and responsibilities that come with the privilege. I can honestly say I have voted in every election I have been eligible for, I have read about each candidate, studied about amendments and laws and tried to be at my best when I voted. To this point as far as my voting record shows, I have not always voted for the winner, but supported those who were the public choice.
I loved standing each and every morning to repeat the Pledge of Allegiance. It was not until several summers ago when my Dad had been given the honor of leading the Pledge at our annual neighborhood Fourth of July Breakfast and he ask me to help him with this special Pledge, that I became aware, the all important and controversial phrase "Under God" had been added at a later date and my Dad had not said this with his school classes.
There have been times when I have wondered at the mentality and more often morality of those voted into public office, and have often prayed for them to be more aware of the people they represent. That their actions would more accurately reflect the beliefs and standards of the public. But I have never regretted voting.
I have been disappointed in the action of those who do not vote but seem to be very vocal in the disapproval of our elected officials.
