For several years when winter got too long, we would often go to Utah's Dixie for the Races at Dixie Downs. They were often the same week as "D" Week celebrations for the College and we would be able to watch parades and go to the carnival. It was in the "Olden Days" when Sunshine was considered good for you and after a weekend by the Motel Pool in the sun we had the beginning of our summer Tan.
It was so much fun. Sometimes we would all go the the track. It was a new park without grass and we more often than not brought little red dirt balls back to the Motel only to realize they were really the children we had taken with us earlier. Sometimes we would go shopping or just check out the sites while the men went to the races. That was a very relaxing time, and fun for the whole family.
One year My younger sister had promised her kids if they would save their allowance they could have some special treat. I don't remember the treat or the promise, what I remember is that they had saved every nickle dime and penny they could find. And I do mean every nickle dime and penny, Their suitcases were so very very heavy. Upon arriving in St George they showed us what they had brought. Their Mom and Grandma (My Mom)decided to take all the change to the nearest bank and cash it in for paper money. I walked with them for the two block it took us to get to the nearest bank, it was a beautiful morning and no one was complaining. As we approached the last intersection before our destination one of the plastic bags broke. Over $10.00 of pennies and nickles found their way into the gutters, street and sidewalk. I am sure the people in cars passing us were thinking we were crazy. We were very busy picking up the many many pieces of money when as you can guess My Mom got the giggles. We were soon all laughing and having a great time. My Mom had the best giggles and her eyes would overflow with those giggles until she would need the closest facility and I do mean the closest.
I love my Mom, My younger Sister and Her very frugal children.

I remember your cute Mom. She was very much like her sister our Roylance in that respect. Always full of fun and ready to laugh! Just a week or so before Roylance died I had taken her to the Dr. to get a steriod shot in her painful little shoulder. She hurt so much going in and coming out felt no pain. With a grin she said, "I feel so good I may just go dancing!" I always picture her dancing in heaven now, and I'm sure she's dancing and laughing with her sister!
Those are great memories of two of my favorite aunts! Thanks for sharing and I agree I'm sure they're having a great time together.
Hi Laura
I stumbled across your blog on LDS BLOGS. I thought you might be interested in a site my wife and I just built called MormonsMadeSimple.com, which uses simple, explanatory videos to explain the Mormon faith. Feel free to feature any of these videos on your blog, or just share them with non-member friends. We're hoping these videos will be missionary tools to help members share their beliefs. Anyway, sorry to spam your comments section. I couldn't find any contact information for you on your blog.

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful experience. We are blessed to have such memories.
What a cute story! I remember your mom and what a cute lady she was! I always considered her my second Grandma! I can just picture her now!
What sweet memories. I love, love, love St. George, lived there for many of my growing up years, and hope to move back someday.
