January and My Two Mothers

Donna Hall entered this existence October 27, 1923, The fourth daughter and 6th child of Herbert and Etta Hall. Just a mere 364 day later on October 26, 1924, LaVerl Fairbourn made her appearance as the 4th child and second daughter of Leslie and Rose Fairbourn. These two women were very influential in my life, each having a season and each leaving a very large impression.
My Mother gave me my foundation in the Gospel and love of life, she gave me the knowledge of the benefit of a good laugh and a cleansing cry. She showed me the way to make a new childs coat out of an old adult jacket, and that the length of my skirt could be the difference between whether I was presumed as a little to easy or a good girl. She gave me a love of good books, a good story and the power of the pen. She showed me by example that you choose your eternal partner with a good long look at their Testimony. The most important knowledge she gave to me was the fact that She loved me.
My Mother-in-law showed me how patience and love can turn a crowd into family. She showed me that My testimony should not be influenced by the negativity of others but should be exercised daily by myself and by my good works. The power of a raised eye brow, and the joy you can share in a Hug. Most of all She gave me unconditional Love. I was so very pleased when I found a sampler that simply said,

" How blessed we are, How fortunate we've been, that you are his Mother and also my Friend".

They apparently both practiced the theory "Whomever dies with the most fabric wins" and to this day we are not sure which one of them was the winner.
My Mother left this existence January 7, 2002, My mother-in-law followed just 8 days later on the 15th. They left a big hole in our lives, but more importantly was the impression or imprint they left ON our lives. We are eternally grateful for the Mothers we were given. They were virtuous women, excellent examples of the Gospel and we hope we can make them proud of us.

wow nicely put Susan! I didn't know your mother in law but I loved aunt Laverl! When I moved down here they came by once or twice when they came down for the races to say hello. A wonderful lady!
